Announcement Policy
First Baptist Church of Moriarty
July 13, 2006

  1. Communication is vital to the success of your ministry. Experience teaches us that while announcements are the easiest of communications avenues, it is the least effective. Announcements should be the last resort of communication. The best communication occurs during personal contact -- letters, emails, phone calls, face-to-face conversations.
  2. The ministry leader is responsible for communicating the opportunities and benefits his/her ministry provides. Please do not attempt to delegate responsibility for communicating your ministry to the staff. We can assist by putting your already written communication in the appropriate publication. We cannot communicate for you.
  3. Announcements should be planned well in advance. Last minute announcements are ineffective and stressful on the ones requested to make them.
  4. Anouncements may be made through the following avenues:
    1. Newsletter -- Submit written announcements (just the way you want them) to the office by the 15th of the month before the newsletter in which you want it published (i.e. July 15th for the August newsletter). Your words will be formatted by our office staff to fit into the space. Announcements that pertain to any portion of our church may be included in the newsletter.
    2. Bulletin -- Please submit your written announcement on the Monday prior to the Sunday you want it published. Write the announcment exactly as you want it. Your words will be formatted to the available space in the bulletin. Announcements that pertain to any portion of our church may be included in the bulletin
    3. Pre-service PowerPoint -- Please submit your announcement on the Monday prior to the Sunday that you want it projected. A PowerPoint slide is the preferred format. Use pictures with limited writing. Announcements that pertain to any portion of our church may be included in this PowerPoint
    4. Weekly Small Group Newsletter -- This newsletter will be distributed through our Small Group leaders on a weekly basis. Submit announcements for the Small Group newsletter on Monday prior to the Sunday that you want it published. Remember that groupes that meet during the week will receive your announcement after the Sunday for which you submit it.
    5. Pulpit Announcements -- This avenue should be used only as a last resort.
      1. Please avoid last minute pulpit announcements.
      2. Pulpit announcements must pertain to the entire church body and berespectful to our guests.
      3. Your announcement will be made by one of the the pastors.
      4. The pastors will announce only the details of the event. They will not try to "sell" the event for you.
      5. Pastors reserve the right to gently refuse to make an announcement based on appropriateness or limitations or time. 2 pulpit announcements per week is the limit. Beyond that all impact is lost. People quit listening.
      6. Pulpit announcements must be in writing. Please remind the pastor of the announcement prior to the service.
    6. Email -- Our Administrative Assistants will distribute an email for you. Please submit your text and recipient list to our administrative assistants via email two days in advance. Email will be the format of last resort.
    7. Church Website -- Please submit your written announcement at least one week prior to the date you want it published on the website. Announcements that pertain to any portion of our church may be posted on the website. Write the announcment exactly as you want it. Your announcement should fit on a single 8-1/2 x 11 inch printed page. Preferred submittal method is by the online Calendar Scheduling Form.
Email pictures, graphics, and formatted (Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF) text for online announcements only, to: webmaster@thepeoplechurch.org .
Note: The webmaster will NOT prepare the online announcement until he/she receives staff approval.)
